Shrink (슈링크) is a HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) platform developed in Korea. It is the same device marketed internationally under the name Ultraformer — "Shrink" is simply the brand used in the Korean market.
It is a separate class of device from Ultherapy, which is a higher-tier platform that adds real-time ultrasound visualization during treatment. Shrink / Ultraformer delivers focused ultrasound at defined cartridge depths to stimulate collagen remodeling without disrupting the skin surface — a widely trusted non-surgical lifting option around the world.
Shrink delivers ultrasound energy in four distinct patterns — dots, line, ring, and dotted ring. The surgeon selects and combines patterns based on the area and desired lifting response, allowing both broad coverage and focused spot-work in one session.

Shrink Universe is the latest generation of the Shrink HIFU platform. Internationally, the same device is marketed under the name Ultraformer. It is not the same as Ultherapy: Ultherapy is a different tier of HIFU that adds real-time ultrasound visualization during treatment. Shrink / Ultraformer delivers focused ultrasound at defined cartridge depths and is widely used worldwide for non-surgical lifting.
Good candidates are adults with early to moderate skin laxity who prefer tightening without incisions. Patients with severe sagging may benefit more from surgical options. Treatment is deferred for active skin infection, recent filler or toxin in the same area, pacemaker or metal implants in the treatment zone, keloid tendency, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. Final suitability is confirmed during consultation.
There is no fixed age. Suitability is based on skin condition rather than a number. Preventive sessions are sometimes considered from the late 20s when early laxity or fine texture changes appear, with the 30s and 40s being the most common starting range. Teens and very early twenties generally do not need it.
The Booster 1.5mm cartridge delivers energy to the upper dermis for texture, fine lines, and tone. The Ultra F 4.5mm cartridge reaches the SMAS layer — the foundational tissue addressed in surgical facelifts — for deeper lifting and jawline definition. Shrink has 9 cartridge types spanning 1.5–9.0mm (including 6.0 and 9.0mm for body), and your surgeon combines them based on your anatomy and goals. Treatments can run in Normal mode or MP (Micro & Macro Pulsed) mode depending on the target layer.
No. Shot count alone is not a quality marker. What matters is selecting the correct cartridge depth for each area and distributing energy evenly. Excessive shots can cause unnecessary discomfort and, in the wrong hands, fat atrophy, neuralgia, or surface irregularity. Your surgeon recommends a shot count and pattern after in-person assessment; more is not always better.
Some initial tightening can be felt within days from tissue contraction. The main lifting effect develops over 2–3 months as new collagen forms and continues to settle through the 6-month mark. The effect typically holds for about 12–18 months, depending on skin type, baseline aging, and lifestyle.
The interval is individualized. For most adults, a single session followed by an annual or every-12–18-month maintenance session is a reasonable rhythm. Patients starting with more pronounced laxity sometimes benefit from two sessions spaced several months apart in the first year before moving to a maintenance cadence. Before: avoid recent dermal filler or botulinum toxin in the treatment area (timing is planned by your surgeon), retinoid creams for about a week, and blood-thinning medications or supplements (aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E, ibuprofen) per your surgeon's instructions. After: avoid alcohol and smoking for 2–3 days, sauna and hot baths for about a week, and vigorous exercise while the area is still tender. Mild surface flaking during regeneration should not be peeled.
Yes. Common same-day combinations include skin boosters (Rejuran, Juvelook) and exosome therapy for hydration, and Botox for dynamic lines. Filler or thread lifts are usually spaced separately. Booster and Ultra F cartridges are frequently combined in one Shrink session to address surface and deep layers together.
Shrink Universe is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Elective energy-based procedures are deferred in these periods as a precaution. Treatment can be considered after weaning and once your routine stabilizes.
Typical and temporary: mild redness, swelling, bruising, tingling, and surface tenderness. Less common: prolonged numbness, small bumps along treatment lines, or uneven response. Rare but important: excessive shot count or incorrect cartridge depth can lead to fat atrophy (hollowing), neuralgia, or surface irregularity. Working with an experienced operator who tailors depth, energy, and shot distribution significantly reduces these risks.
A single Shrink Universe session is same-day and does not require extended stay. A comfortable itinerary is: Day 1 consultation and design, Day 2 procedure (30–90 minutes), optional Day 3 check-up. Most patients return home after 2–3 nights. If combined with surgery, the itinerary is planned around the more demanding procedure.
